The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a significant seizure of cannabis worth approximately N3 billion (around $7 million USD) at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.
The shipment, which originated from Canada, was concealed in a container declared as “used vehicles”.
According to the NCS, the cannabis was discovered during a routine inspection of the container, and subsequent testing confirmed the presence of the illegal drug.
The seizure is one of the largest in recent history, and it highlights the ongoing efforts of Nigerian authorities to combat drug trafficking and illegal activities.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali, praised the officers involved in the seizure and reiterated the service’s commitment to enforcing laws and regulations related to illegal drugs.
The investigation is ongoing, and the NCS is working to identify those responsible for the shipment.
This seizure comes as a significant blow to drug traffickers and sends a strong message that Nigeria will not tolerate illegal activities.
The country has been stepping up its efforts to combat drug trafficking, and this seizure is a testament to the effectiveness of those efforts.
