In a recent incident, a woman named Precious Yusuf was apprehended by the Nigerian Correctional Service for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja.
The suspect disguised herself as a visitor to an inmate, but her clandestine intentions were uncovered during a routine search by correctional service officials.
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Precious Yusuf arrived at the Kuje Custodial Centre, posing as a visitor to one of the inmates.
However, her actions raised suspicions among the correctional service officials, who promptly conducted a search.
The search revealed that Yusuf had concealed suspected drugs, including Indian hemp and other dangerous substances, in food packs within a carton.
Upon interrogation, Yusuf confessed to being sent to deliver the drugs to an inmate within the custodial centre.
The Nigerian Correctional Service has since taken her into custody and will hand her over to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Correctional Service to maintain the safety and security of its facilities and prevent the smuggling of contraband, including drugs.
The agency’s vigilance and prompt action in this case have prevented the potential harm that could have been caused by the introduction of drugs into the prison system.
The public is encouraged to continue supporting the agency in its mission to maintain order and ensure the rehabilitation of inmates.
