The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has categorically denied reports of a ban on Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, quashing speculation that had spread like wildfire across the football community.
Earlier on Wednesday, several online publications had claimed that Osimhen was expelled from the national team due to his recent social media outburst against former coach Finidi George.
However, the NFF has now set the record straight, stating that no such action has been taken against the Napoli forward.
Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, NFF General Secretary, expressed surprise at the rumors, emphasizing that the federation has not initiated or concluded any process to ban Osimhen.
Sanusi urged the media to be responsible and constructive in their reporting, avoiding the spread of misinformation that can create unnecessary tension.
The NFF’s swift denial has put to rest speculation that had begun to gain traction, and fans can now breathe a sigh of relief that Osimhen remains available for selection ahead of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the final six games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series.
In a statement on the NFF website, Sanusi said, “This is not the time to sow disinformation and further pollute the public space. We want to focus on the bigger picture and work together to resolve conflicts constructively.”
With this clarification, the focus now shifts back to the football pitch, where Osimhen’s skills and goalscoring prowess will be crucial to the Super Eagles’ success in upcoming tournaments.
