In a strong statement issued today, Honorable Princess Olawumi Annah Fayemi-Obayelu, Member Representing Ilaje Constituency II in the Ondo State House of Assembly, and Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, has vehemently condemned the recent illegal raid on nightclubs in Akure by the EFCC on June 8th, 2024.
Describing the actions as brutal and unjustifiable, Hon. Fayemi-Obayelu expressed her opposition to the harassment and intimidation of innocent citizens, particularly targeting women, during the raids.
“The EFCC’s raid on nightclubs in Akure represents a clear abuse of power and a violation of our people’s fundamental rights,” Hon. Fayemi-Obayelu stated. “We cannot tolerate the harassment and intimidation of women by law enforcement agencies. Immediate action must be taken to halt such illegal activities and brutality.”
As a dedicated advocate for women’s rights and a staunch supporter of human rights and the rule of law, Hon. Fayemi-Obayelu demanded an immediate end to such illegal arrest processes, terming them as sexual harassment and brutality.
She called upon relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
Furthermore, Hon. Fayemi-Obayelu appealed to the citizens of Ondo State, especially women and youth, to remain calm and trust the government to address the situation effectively.
“I want to assure you that you are not alone in this. I trust that the appropriate authorities will take swift action, and justice will prevail,” she reassured.
The lawmaker concluded by thanking everyone for their support and urged for God’s blessings upon the Sunshine State.
