This visit is seen as a nod to the cardinal’s influential role in the Catholic Church.

Following his visit to Luxembourg, the Pope will travel to Belgium, where he will spend four days visiting the cities of Brussels, Leuven, and Louvain-la-Neuve.

The trip coincides with the 600th anniversary of the country’s two main Catholic universities, making it a significant event for the Catholic community in Belgium.

This trip marks the first time a Pope has visited Belgium since 1995, when Pope John Paul II made a historic visit to the country.
