Flash Flood Emergency in Florida

 

A tropical disturbance brought a rare flash flood emergency to southern Florida, causing widespread flooding and disruption. 

 


 

Heavy rainfall, exceeding 10 inches in some areas, resulted in states of emergency being declared in several counties. Thousands of flights were delayed or canceled, and roads became impassable.
 


 

The flooding caused significant damage, with numerous roads and buildings inundated. A tornado was confirmed in Hobe Sound, causing damage but no injuries. 
 
The National Weather Service warned of “life-threatening flooding” and advised people to stay off roadways and seek higher ground.
 
As hurricane season begins, forecasts predict an unusually busy season, with 17-25 named storms expected. 
 
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow local authorities’ instructions.
 
The flash flood emergency has resulted in:
 
– States of emergency declared in Broward, Miami-Dade, Collier, Lee, and Sarasota counties
– Thousands of flights delayed or canceled
– Roads impassable
– Significant damage to buildings and infrastructure
– A confirmed EF-1 tornado in Hobe Sound
